My name is Yogatara (L. Alessandra) and I am a yoga practitioner, instructor and transpersonal therapist at Isha, a center of yogic learning and conscious living in Patan, Nepal. For over two decades the small Himalayan nation has been my home and source of inspiration as I have explored, discovered and lived the ancient spiritual and healing traditions of Yoga and Ayurveda.
Raised in both the U.S. and France, my bi-cultural upbringing nurtured a nomadic inclination that kept me traveling through most of my early adulthood and continues to fuel my passion for learning and exploring. Culture, community and paths to the sacred are threads that weave themselves into a distinctive pattern in the fabric of my life. They brought me to work in Nepal after university, with a degree in biochemistry and a spirit aching for nourishment. What was to be a short stint in public health in Nepal marked the beginning of a journey that would take me off the beaten trail and into the unmarked territory of spiritual learning and intensive practice as a karma sannyasin, a wife, a divorcee, a step mother and much more.
With a Diploma in Applied Yogic Sciences (yoga therapy) from the Bihar Yoga University in India, a Masters in Transpersonal Psychology from ITP in California, and a certification in Somatic Experiencing (trauma healing), I blend the rich esoteric practices of Eastern spiritual traditions with the Western and contemporary views of psychology and wellbeing. East and West, ancient and novel, these seemingly opposite sources of wisdom find integration along my path as I dance into wholeness and authenticity and joyfully invite others to find their own dance of Being.
I invite you to explore this site and to become more acquainted with my background, work, travels, inspiration and Joy.
Blessings on your day.
